而Tor则完全不具有以上的缺点，就如同它的名字（The Onion Router）一样，Tor就好像一个洋葱，把你包在最里边，使用Tor时，你提交的任何网络请求数据都会被分散成数次在Tor网内加密层进提交，经过数次周转后到达目标主机，就好像一层一层的洋葱皮一样。所以这中间没有人能追查到数据到底源自何处又去往了何方。说了这么多废话（如果你有兴趣了解更多Tor的运作原理，可以点击此处访问Tor官网），其实是想说Tor的稳定性、安全性和匿名性是其他代理服务器和代理服务器软件所不能比的。这就是我们为什么要使用Tor（当然，可能真正的实际目的没有那么高尚OTL）。
你可能会问？既然是这样，我为什么还需要Firefox？答案很简单，Tor在IE下安装极度复杂，使用也不如在Firefox下方便，同时，安装在IE上容易引起IE崩溃，所以要使用Firefox和其搭档（而且Firefox还有更多优秀的插件可以增强匿名浏览功能）。
